Het meesterwerk van de Franse opera – Gounod’s Faust – heeft nog altijd verrassingen in petto. De partituur uit 1859, oorspronkelijk geschreven in de geest van opéra-comique, wisselt af tussen gesproken dialoog en muziek, en verweeft humor en Romantische pathos. Het is deze 'eerste Faust' die het Palazzetto Bru Zane in ere herstelt met deze opname, inclusief vele stukken die later werden geschrapt of aangepast. Dirigeng Christophe Rousset en zijn ensemble Les Talens Lyriques bundelen de krachten met het Vlaams Radiokoor en een reeks geweldige solisten, waaronder Véronique Gens en Benjaming Bernheim.
