Kristien's use of color is fascinating. It is a quest for the way colors interact with and influence each other, and how this interaction of colors has an effect on the viewer. By studying color theories and reading the ideas of Wittgenstein and Albers, she has further strengthened her love for color.
In her abstract works, the play of light and color often refers to the passage of time. It is a representation of the traces of a visual presence that cannot be captured, and the fear that time passes without fully experiencing and feeling it, only to hold onto it in a depicted memory.
