American Bang on a Can composer David Lang is fascinated by Beethoven's Fidelio, his only opera – for chamber orchestra, large male choir and four soloists. Taking Fidelio as his basis, Lang constructs a brand-new musical drama. The abuses portrayed are topical and of all times. The orchestra is both actor and eyewitness in the chronicle of an evil government and the fall of a political tyrant.
