The Vlaams Radio Koor and Grammy-award winning Barbara Hannigan and the Ludwig Orchestra present a contemporary version of Faust about temptation, lust and decline as told by Stravinsky. His opera The Rake’s Progress, the culmination of Stravinsky’s crystal clear and playful neoclassical style, tells the story of the rise and fall of Tom Rakewell. The young man has set his sights on Anne Trulove (the restyled version of Goethes Gretchen). Yet hungry for opulence and pleasure, he leaves behind his love to try his luck in London. To this end, he is aided and abetted by Nick Shadow – aka Mephistopheles. Can love save the protagonist of this Faust adaptation?

In this semi-staged production of The Rake’s Progress you cannot hear but you can see Hannigan at work: as conductor!

Cast: Aphrodite Patoulidou (Anne Trulove), Elgan Thomas (Tom Rakewell), Yannis François (Nick Shadow), Fleur Barron (Baba the Turk), Antoin Herrera-Lopez Kessel (Father Trulove), James Way (Sellem), Bart Van Reyn (chorus master), Linus Fellbom (mise en espace)
