‘The Planets – An HD Odyssey’ takes the audience along on an astonishing journey – both musical and visual. The lovely and sometimes mysterious The Planets by Gustav Holst was the driving force behind this production, with images supplied by NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). A musical tour through our galaxy, brought to life on the big screen.
The musicians are joined on stage by cosmologist Thomas Hertog who will speak about the secrets of our universe.
“The music was the driving force behind the production,” stated the director of 'The Planets – An HD Odyssey', Duncan Copp. “The pacing of the film and selection of images were formed by the music. It’s a synergy really; a true marriage of two art forms.”
In addition to the out-of-this-world imagery, audiences will see a brief selection of interviews that Copp led with conductor Hans Graf and several prominent planetary scientists. “These interviews help remind audiences of the humanity behind this production, how it came to be,” stated Copp. “It’s truly remarkable to hear a scientist recall how he spends his days gathering data and imagery by driving the Mars Rover around the planet’s surface from a computer on Earth. Gratefully, these scientists and Hans Graf have an imagination that brings us to where we are today.”
Copp, who holds a Doctorate in Astronomy, was also a member of the NASA team responsible for creating the first detailed geological maps of Venus.
