The Resurrection and Ascension: two essential moments in the life of Jesus that have inspired countless masterpieces. The oratorio by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is a striking example, and was profoundly admired by Mozart.
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was trained by his father in the Baroque style, but his works, full of refined colours and emotion-laden expression, ushered in the beginning of the classical period. The Auferstehung und Himmelfahrt does not follow the Baroque tradition, and reflects on the emotions summoned up by the events of the Bible.
